How GST is Calculated

Adding GST (Exclusive)

When the price does not include GST, the tax is added on top.

GST Exclusive Formula
GST Amount = Price x (GST Rate / 100)
Total Price = Price + GST Amount

For example, a product priced at Rs 10,000 with 18% GST: GST = Rs 1,800, Total = Rs 11,800.

Removing GST (Inclusive / Reverse)

When the price already includes GST:

GST Inclusive Formula
Base Price = Total Price / (1 + GST Rate / 100)
GST Amount = Total Price - Base Price

For example, a product with MRP Rs 11,800 at 18% GST: Base = Rs 10,000, GST = Rs 1,800.

CGST, SGST & IGST Explained

  • CGST (Central GST): Collected by the Central Government on intra-state sales. Rate is half of the total GST rate.
  • SGST (State GST): Collected by the State Government on intra-state sales. Also half of the total GST rate.
  • IGST (Integrated GST): Collected by the Central Government on inter-state sales or imports. Equals the full GST rate.

For a Rs 10,000 product at 18% GST sold within the same state: CGST = 9% (Rs 900) + SGST = 9% (Rs 900) = Total Rs 1,800. If sold to another state: IGST = 18% (Rs 1,800).
